SOLANO , Philippines — With Nueva Vizcaya still reeling from the devastation of Super Typhoon Uwan, Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito is in Manila this week to personally push for rapid relief assistance and rehabilitation funding from the national government. The governor emphasized that the province’s current resources will not be enough to cover the massive damage left by the typhoon, calling the situation “urgent and overwhelming.”
Gambito’s Manila visit is part of an intensified effort to secure additional national support after Uwan caused widespread flooding, landslides, infrastructure collapse, and agricultural losses across the province. The governor said the damage assessments remain preliminary, but the initial estimate of losses already stands at around ₱2 billion, a figure he warned may still rise as validation continues.
A Direct Appeal to President Marcos and DSWD for Post-Typhoon Recovery Funds
Governor Gambito said the timing of his trip is crucial, noting that he intends to raise Nueva Vizcaya’s needs directly with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian.
The governor will fly to Cebu City on Wednesday to attend a Department of Social Welfare and Development event where both the President and the DSWD chief are expected to be present alongside other provincial governors. Gambito said this offers a “timely and strategic opportunity” to emphasize the scale of the problem that Novo Vizcayanos are now facing.
He stressed that Nueva Vizcaya requires immediate augmentation of relief supplies, additional financial assistance for displaced families, and funding for long-term rehabilitation projects involving roads, irrigation systems, schools, and livelihood recovery.
“As we continue our assessment, it is clear that the province cannot carry this burden alone,” Gambito said, citing the severe damage across multiple sectors.

Super Typhoon Uwan Leaves Billions in Damage Across Nueva Vizcaya
Provincial authorities earlier reported that Uwan battered dozens of barangays, inundated critical farm areas, destroyed crops, and triggered multiple landslides in upland communities. Major road networks remain partially blocked, and several interior routes are still being cleared.
The preliminary ₱2-billion damage estimate includes losses in:
- Agriculture: rice, corn, vegetable farms, and orchard areas
- Infrastructure: roads, bridges, flood control systems, water sources
- Livestock and fisheries: upland animal farms and small fisheries affected
- Public facilities: classrooms, rural health units, barangay halls, and evacuation centers
Gambito noted that once the ongoing damage validation is completed, the province may need even more than the initial estimate.
“This is one of the most challenging disasters Nueva Vizcaya has faced in recent years, and we must be ready with a coordinated recovery plan supported by the national government,” he said.
Uwan Recovery: Gambito Calls for Unity and Cooperation Among Novo Vizcayanos
As recovery operations continue, the governor renewed his call for solidarity, patience, and cooperation among residents affected by the typhoon. He urged barangay officials, local leaders, and community volunteers to remain proactive and vigilant as clearing, relief, and repair work intensify in the coming days.
“Together we will rise and rebuild our beloved Nueva Vizcaya,” Gambito said, emphasizing that community cohesion remains the backbone of any effective disaster recovery effort.
He added that while national assistance is needed, the resilience, discipline, and bayanihan spirit of Novo Vizcayanos will determine how quickly the province can return to normal.
The governor also praised rescue teams, municipal responders, and volunteers who have been working around the clock since Uwan’s landfall, noting that the recovery process is far from over.
A Crucial Week for Nueva Vizcaya’s Future After Super Typhoon Uwan
With Governor Gambito’s meetings in Manila and Cebu, the next several days are expected to shape the province’s access to rehabilitation funding, emergency resources, and national support systems. For many residents still without stable shelter, clean water, or livelihood security, the outcome of these discussions may have immediate, life-changing impact.
As the province awaits the response of President Marcos, the DSWD, and other national agencies, Gambito remains firm in his commitment to securing every possible resource.
